Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
My office is located at Nourish Center for Therapy & Wellness at 268 S 9th street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Just a 5 minute walk from Washington Square and close to other Center City neighborhoods.
Do you offer online appointments?
Yes! I offer virtual appointments using a HIPAA compliant platform so that we can meet from the comfort of your own home.
What is your rate?
My rate is $130 for a 50-55 minute session.
Do you take insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider and therefore I do not directly accept insurance. You can pay for sessions out of pocket and I will provide you with all necessary paperwork to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Why don’t you take insurance?
This is a great question that I have also asked as a client and I’d like to share my perspective of why I have chosen to not work with insurance networks.
Firstly, insurance companies typically mandate a formal diagnosis for clients to consider therapy sessions as medically necessary. However, not every client in need of counseling fits the criteria for a diagnosis, particularly those navigating challenges such as life transitions that aren’t classified as a mental illness. I see my clients as unique individuals, not merely defined by a diagnosis.
Secondly, insurance providers often impose limitations on the number of sessions allowed. Opting to work independently allows me to provide a more flexible and tailored approach that better caters to your specific needs without these constraints.
If you have any more questions on why I do not accept insurance, I am happy to talk further with you.
Do you work with couples and families or just individuals?
I primarily work with individuals 14 years of age and up. If you are interested in scheduling a couples or family session, that is something that we can discuss. If I am not able to take you on as a client, I will be happy to refer you to someone else who can.
What if I’m not sure what to talk about in therapy?
It is a normal experience to be unsure of what to talk about in therapy. I typically ask clients the question of “why therapy now?” and that may spark a thought in you. Sometimes the answer is something specific that you know is going on and sometimes the answer is “I don’t know, I just don’t feel like myself.” Either response is perfectly okay and I will meet you where you are at in the ‘why therapy’ process.
Do you offer a free consultation or initial assessment?
Yes! Feel free to fill out the form under the Contact section of my website and I will reach out to you for a free consultation to see if we would be a good fit.
How do I know if we’re a good fit for therapy together?
Finding the right therapist is crucial for a beneficial therapy experience. Many studies have shown that the bond between a therapist and their client is the glue that holds the therapeutic relationship together. I spend the time getting to know you for you and not just for the challenges that bring you in. Similarly, this is a two way street and I’m happy to answer questions that you may have about me as well.
We are two people working as a team towards the same goal–to get you the life you want.
How would you describe yourself?
My clients, family, and friends describe me as someone who is calm, patient, empathetic, honest, and a bit humorous. It’s perfectly okay to have a laugh in the therapy room!
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy fitness & weightlifting, traveling, and metal. Yes, metal as in the music genre, and yes I know… I ‘don’t look like someone who would like metal.’ I am also a huge animal lover who can be found soaking up love from the Philly dog’s at the park between appointments or visiting the cats at my local shelter.
